What Can Traditional Tools Teach Us About Design?

The kitchen appliance design team discusses enriching the food experience

Cooking appliances keep getting more advanced and convenient, but when it comes to developing a design, there is much to learn from traditional tools.

Take, for example, clay pots are beloved in Asian countries. When you open the lid, steam rises and fills the room with an aroma, you see the food, and you hear it bubbling as it releases heat. Simply setting the table with the pot makes mealtime a fancier affair. A clay pot produces deliciousness through sights, sounds, and aromas. It simply makes time spent cooking and dining better.

Our goal with the Donabe Microwave Oven is a design that makes you imagine what delicious food is being cooked inside, fueling anticipation for the moment when the lid opens. Our research of traditional tools provided hints for design, such as colors and materials that express a certain mood and a shape that’s easy to hold in your hands.

Our studies continue as we seek to provide you and your family better times living together.
