I have made so many design mockups that I cannot keep count. Each one, however, has a story about solving difficult problems. I designed this television with the goal of creating “a single panel for presenting images that stands alone beautifully.” Making a large TV stay straight up is surprisingly difficult. To prevent it from tilting when placed and from falling over or turning during earthquakes, it has to be made sturdy, and this tends to result in a stout appearance. This time, with extensive cooperation from others involved in the design, I sought to create a TV with a new original appearance. Merging the screen and legs connected by curved lines into a single form, I focused on the positions and angles of the points where the four supple extended legs attached along with the thickness and texture among other aspects. After numerous experimentations, using curved surfaces and edges, I think that I was able to realize a product with an elegant form free of excess that stands alone pleasantly in spaces.
I like getting my body out into nature on my days off. I want to search for aspects that are missing from artificial things and beauty that I have not yet found. When out in nature, I hope to discover beautiful colors and forms, pleasant breezes and sounds, and other hints that can contribute to enhancing the spaces between people and things.
