Face-to-face Communication That Makes People Smile

Wearing a mask in public places and talking through a partition can make it difficult to hear the other person. Our goal was to create a speaker system that anyone can use easily in this “age of pandemics,” and we tackled product development with the thought of finding a solution to this problem through design. We were particular about the orientation of the speaker so that users can interact with the system in a natural posture, and we created a basic form that enables the direction of the sound easy to recognize immediately. We also created an interface that has a sliding volume control with small slider movements and buttons that are easy to clean with a cloth, which allows anyone to operate the product easily and intuitively. The simple appearance of this product is a reflection of our desire to make conversation more comfortable in this new age. We designed this product while imagining customers smiling under their masks when they use it, thinking, “Conversations are so easy to hear.”

On my days off, I often spend time in nature. I often discover new ideas while cooking in the forest while listening to the sound of a murmuring river or interacting with a variety of people around a bonfire. Relaxing both mentally and physically in such an environment detached from daily life is also a good base for generating ideas.
