This smartphone achieves both a pleasant feel and a simple design. Human fingers are very sensitive, making even 0.1mm differences in dimension feel completely different. For this model, I focused most on making it seem familiar as a tool for use in the hand. For example, I adjusted the angles and curvatures of the side edges through numerous trials. On the other hand, I also wanted to focus on a simple familiar design since it is something kept close during daily life. I had discussions with engineering repeatedly and pressed the design to the limit in order to realize a form that is both easy to hold and gives a clean impression. I believe that the final form is well-balanced as a result. While the colorings of these aluminum unibody phones bring out the high quality sense of metal, the matte finishes emphasize their smooth feel. My goal was a tool that has a good feeling when seen and never becomes boring.
I like working with my hands, so I make wooden furniture and repair old furniture on my days off. Tools are valuable partners for making things. What I find interesting is that a good tool does not lose quality when used repeatedly, and it can even offer better performance. For me, the “Do-It-Yourself” spirit provides a scale to know real value and is also a source of ideas.
