Giving Users Peace of Mind

Specially and cleverly crafted acts of fraud targeting the elderly using landline phones has become a significant social problem. This phone was therefore commercialized out of the desire of the developers to prevent such crimes.The “Temotan” is a speakerphone that can be placed on a desk or table to make calls, and it differs in shape from conventional handsets. In developing the design, we focused on peace of mind with the aim of helping the elderly. We improved operability by reducing the number of buttons, and by making the letters larger and more-distinctly positioned. I remember how relieved I was when a customer told me, “I don’t need to wear my glasses when using the phone, so I can answer the phone in a hurry.” There are also many elderly people who carry the handset around the house and make long phone calls while doing housework. Therefore, we designed the handset to be a size that a small person can hold in one hand, and to be shaped so that it naturally rests in the user’s hand and does not slip when held, so that it can be carried without worrying about dropping it. We came up with the sloping angle of the operation surface imagining the user facing the caller, and the rounded, familiar appearance is also a key design point.

In my private life, I cherish the time that I spend with my family. I have noticed many things in my daily life, particularly the pure way that children perceive things without preconceptions. I try to make use of this thinking to design using my own ideas.
