An attractive “white box” that embodies ease-of-use

As proposals for office spaces that promote the coexistence of effectiveness and relaxation increase, we started development of A3 multifunction printers with the concept of “realizing devices with simple, easy-to-understand user interfaces that can sit unobtrusively like office furniture even when nearby.” The early stage of development, however, was filled with difficulties. MFPs are bundles of complex mechanical designs, and their fundamental structures have already reached a stage of near completion. In order to make them more like office furniture, restructuring them was necessary, so I undertook repeated discussions with the engineering division about every uneven physical trait of previous designs. I also thought constantly about how operation could be made easier for people and refined the design through repeated user testing with prototypes. In the end, I fused the ideas of everyone involved in the development and completed a “white box” that was easier to use and more attractive than any before.

My hobby is laser crafting. I enjoy making wallets, bags for commuting and other things that I have thought I wanted. Since making something that looks good and is easy to use cannot be realize simply, however, I do numerous alterations by hand until what I am making is complete to my satisfaction. I experience the difficulties and joys of creating things in my private life too.
