大型搬送ロボット

“ロボット”といえば、人や動物の姿をしたものをイメージしませんか？私も子供の頃からロボットアニメが好きで、人型のイメージが強いです。でも、実は、ロボットには用途によっていろんなスタイルがあります。

When you hear “robot,” do you imagine something that has the form of a person or an animal? When I was a child, I liked anime about robots, so I have a strong image of them being shaped like people. In truth, however robots come in many forms depending on their applications.

私がデザインしたロボットは、工場内で荷物を運ぶ「自動搬送ロボット」で、箱型をしています。とはいえ、車と変わらないサイズなので、一緒に働く人が安心感を持てるように、コーナー形状には大きなラウンドを取り入れています。そして、すばやく走行するロボットが人と共に働くために、何よりも“人に対して安全であること”を第一に考えてデザインしました。特に、ロボットの走行状態を示すインジケーターは、どの方向から見てもすぐに認識できる配置が重要です。デザイン検討では原寸モデルを作成し、人との関わりを確認しながら、何度も微調整を繰り返しました。

The robot I designed is a “self-driving vehicle for automated material transport” that carries things inside factories, and it is shaped like a box. Even so, since it is the size of a car, it has large curves at the corners so people working with it feel safe and comfortable. Moreover, so this robot that moves quickly could work alongside people, I designed it with “safety for people” as my first thought above all else. In particular, arrangement of indicators that show the running status of the robot and allow people to check it quickly from every direction is important. In design investigations, I built a full-scale model and made small adjustments over and over while checking how it related with people.

またこのロボットは、ユーザーの要望に合わせてカスタマイズできます。自由に組み替えてアジャストする構造は、まるで変形ロボットのようです！！

This robot can also be customized according to user wishes. With a structure that can be changed and adjusted freely, it really is like a transforming robot!

子どもの頃に買ってもらった玩具は今でも大切な宝物です。当時の私には、空想世界の存在だったロボットを操縦したい夢がありました。あれから数十年後、実際にロボットと名の付くもののデザインに関われたことは、子供の頃の夢にほんの少しでも近づけたのかな？と思っています。

I still treasure toys bought for me when I was a child. Then, I had dreams of piloting robots that existed in my imagination. Decades later, I believe that I have approached these childhood dreams a little by actually being involved in the design of things called robots.
