Touch meets vision

We designed an 8K virtual viewing system with a replica tea cup as a controller that faithfully reproduces famous tea cups of historical value. The viewer can look at the base of the actual famous tea cup and can have an experience as if they were feeling the delicate roughness of the surface and weight in their hands. Our goal was to create an “all-round real experience” that highlights tactile and visual senses. We particularly paid attention to the realness of the replica tea cup. I attempted to produce a tea cup by understanding the production process and the materials from the period during which it was created, with the help of a curator. Taking advantage of my design work experience, I strove to replicate realness in granular detail, from the materials and surface finish to the shape, center of gravity, and feel. The first time I felt this ultimate replica tea cup, I was amazed by the firm weight and the way it fit in my hand. And I’ll never forget how moved I was when I experienced an 8K viewing system that achieves an amazingly real image. We will be holding a proof of concept exhibition from July 29 to August 2, 2020 at the Tokyo National Museum! Please come and experience this amazing sight to behold!

I love surfing, and I’m at the beach in Sotobo, Chiba, on the weekends, all year round. I watch the sunrise while waiting for waves, and catching a good one is an exhilarating experience. I feel refreshed! And I can head into the next week feeling great.
